Condensation-Curing RTV Silicone Rubber

Condensation-curing silicone rubber is one component type adhesives compounded with a special filler to enhance thermal conductivity. These materials are in paste form before curing. When exposed to the air, they start to cure while generating a small amount of cure byproduct. These adhesive/sealants adhere to many substrates and cure to become elastic rubber with excellent thermal conductivity.

Features

  • Excellent thermal conductivity
  • Easy to handle
  • Excellent adhesion
  • Superior electrical properties
  • These materials exhibit outstanding heat and cold resistance, and show stable
  • properties in a wide temperature range from -40°C to 180°C .

Applications

  • Sealing and thermal conductivity of electrical and electronic components
  • Sealing of thermocouples
  • Sealing of heat exchangers
  • Better performance can be obtained when these materials are used as a heat

bonding

  • material for the joints

Usage

1. Cleaning the substrate surface
For better results, the substrate surface should be cleaned with sandpaper or solvents (toluene, xylene, etc.) to remove any rusts, oils, or other contamination. Use solvents to clean the substrate with care, because some solvents may attach to the surface

2. Handling
Simply squeeze from the tube or cartridge the quantity needed. The work should be performed as quickly as possible, prior to skin-over

3. Storage
Remove the nozzle of the tubes after use and seal tightly. Wipe up the residue within the nozzle with a solvent

Handling Precautions

  • Wear protectors such as gloves or goggles when in use. Allow adequate ventilation when in use.
  • If silicone rubber adheres to hands, wipe well with dry cloth, then wash with soap and running water.
  • One-component RTV silicone rubber starts curing when exposed to the air, the curing naturally occurring first on the surface. The full cure will depend on the thickness of the rubber, the air temperature, and the humidity.
  • Handle the condensation type products with care, because some of these materials may cause copper corrosion due to the reaction of oxime.
  • One-component RTV silicone rubber should be sealed tightly and stored in a dark place (1 to 30°C).
  • Read the Manufacturer's Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) before use.

Addition-Curing Liquid Silicone Rubber / Gel

Shin-Etsu silicone rubber/gel products, compounded with special filler to enhance the properties of thermal conductivity, are heat-curable addition type and can thus be uniformly cured in a short period of time regardless of the thickness of the rubber. They exhibit excellent thermal conductivity and are best suited as potting materials to protected wire and components from vibration and heat deformation.

Features

  • Excellent thermal conductivity
  • Excellent electrical properties
  • Superior heat and cold resistance
  • Deep section curing is possible
  • Excellent resistance to chemicals and medicine
  • Superior flame retardant properties

Applications

  • Sealant for heat sinks and pipes
  • Sealing materials for thermal conductive circuits
  • Protection and thermally conductive potting materials for electrical and electronic components
  • Molding material for thermally conductive parts and components

Usage

  • For both one-component type and two-component types; for better results, the substrate surface should be cleaned with sandpaper or solvents (toluene, xylene, etc.) to remove any rust, oils, or other contamination.
  • One-component type;
    1. Handling: Apply the material to the substrates
    2. Curing and adhesion: Heat cure as outlined in the table below.
  • Two-component type;
    1. Since sedimentation may occur at the bottom of the container, the product should be stirred with a spatula before use.
    2. Weigh respectively the silicone rubber/gel compound and curing agent.
    3. Thoroughly mix the compound and curing agent until the colors are uniform.
    4. After mixing, de-gas under vacuum.
    5. Pour the fluid into the place to be sealed and heat to recommended cure temperature.

Handling Precautions

  • Wear protectors such as goggles, gloves when in use.
  • The addition-cure type silicone may show signs of cure inhibition when in contact with such substances containing sulfur, phosphorus, nitrogen compounds, water, organic metallic salt, etc. High humidity may also cause insufficient cure and adhesion. Store at low humidity.
  • Containers of one-component type products should be sealed tightly and stored in a cool place (below 10°C), and two-component products should be sealed and stored in a dark place at temperatures range of 1 to 30°C.
  • Read the Manufacturer's Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) before use.

Quality, Storage, and Handling

  • Avoid exposing the products to direct sunlight
  • Avoid contact with residual solvents or oils as they will deteriorate the properties of the product
  • Clean the surface of the product before use to remove any dirt, dust, stains, moisture or oils
  • Prior to using the product with grease, test a sample with a small amount to determine compatibility
